Tameside Carers Centre is a drop in & information centre for Carers . This article explains how the carers Team can support you .


Who can Tameside Carers Centre help ?


We help informal Carers looking after someone in Tameside .


A Carer is someone who looks after a friend, relative or neighbour who cannot manage at home without help because of their age. physical disability or illness . The care they provide is unpaid .


You may not realise that you are a Carer . Here are some examples .


Your parent suffers from dementia . Your husband or wife is disabled or sick . Your child has health needs . You support your partner who has mental illness . Your neighbour is frail & cannot manage without your help .


How can Tameside Carers Centre help you ?


All our services are Free & Confidential .


Information & Advice . The Carers Team can offer you information or point you in the right direction about almost anything to do with your caring situation such as your rights & available services . We can also send you a Free Copy of Tameside's Guide for Carers Looking After Someone . Which contains information on what help is available locally & nationally for Carers .


Support . The Carers Team can offer you a friendly listening ear . Carers often find it helpful to talk through their worries & concerns with someone who has the time to listen .


Advocacy . Some Carers find it difficult to talk to professionals about their needs . We can support you in these situations & if necessary speak on your behalf .


How do we keep you up to date ?


The Carers Team produces a quarterly  newsletter called " Signpost " which covers issues relevant to Carers . To receive your copy you need to join our Carers Register .


What is the Carers Register ?


Any Carers who wish to receive regular information, including " Signpost " , may register their details with us . This list is called the Carers Register . All information is kept confidential . We may collect statistics from the Register to help us improve services for Carers .


What else can Tameside Carers Centre do for you ?


Trips & Activities . The Carers Team organises days out & activiites for Carers to enable them to take a break . We can make alternative care arrangements for the person you care for to enable you to attend these events . However, we do run activities where you can bring the person you care for. a friend or relative .


Help with holidays . The Carers Team can direct you to organisations taht specialise in holidays for Carers . We can also help you to apply for a contribution towards a holiday .


Carers Card Scheme . The Carers Card provides peace of mind to Carers . The Card is carried by the Carer & details how to contact Tameside Emergency Control Room in an Emergency . Adult Services can then ensure the needs of the person you care for are met in your absence .


Short Break Scheme . We have small grants which Carers can apply for . We encourage you to think in imaginitive ways how you could spend this money to help in your caring role .


Cleaning Voucher . Carers can make a one - off application for a voucher entitling them to a few hours cleaning from an approved local agency .

How can you meet other Carers ?


Support Groups . we run several support groups throughout Tameside . These are informal groups where you can meet & share information with other Carers .


Carers Forum . These are meetings, several times a year, where we invite guest speakers to talk on topics of interest to Carers .
